The whole district was darkened by a mystical cloud for a month already. Noone knew why is it there. Every single day the magicians tried their very best to make it disappear. Every day the priests and clerics were praying to their gods. The ruler of the district in his desperation promised 5.000 gold to whoever is able to end this curse. Brave adventurers came to the city and boldly claimed that they will be the long-waited heroes. Sadly..they all failed one after each other.
In this dark time, a child was born. A new member of the Eronym family,Yscar Eronym. The moment the child cried up the first time the blackish cloud on the sky turned red for a moment. People were panicking on the streets, they dropped everything from their hands to the ground and ran into their houses in fear. Housekeepers closed the windows and tried to gather the children in case a tragedy is imminent.
Five minutes later the cloud vanished into thin air, like it was never there. This was a moment of true happiness for every single citizen in the district. Humans were clapping and dancing "randomly", dwarfs were rushing into the first inn they were able to see to fill their stomach with the best ales to celebrate this day.
Ywron Eronym, the father of the new born child, went to the ruler of the district to claim the gold. He said, the reason why the curse is gone, is Yscar's power and thus the family should have the price. The ruler was hesitating a bit, but eventually honoured the claim and gave the gold to him. Ywron however had no interest in said gold at all. The only thought in his mind was about a single gold coin.
Eronyms...Most people in the district heard about them already or more precisely they heard about the "secret" wagers between the Dostrona and Eronym houses. Both families are typical nobles. They are egoistic, rich and generally don't care about anything else but themselves.
They also love gambling. It's not about the money for them...they already have more then they can spend. It's about the thrill, the feeling which motivates bets beyond reason. The price for said bets was one shiny gold coin and nothing else.
Everyone remembers the sad events of Jimmy Holzen. He was a nice guy and a fair trader. He also was a target of a silly bet. In a single week he lost his shop, his house and even got divorced from her beautiful wife. All that for a single gold coin...Poor guy...Poor,poor guy.
Yscar Eronym even as a little child, always wanted to be a spellcaster which was kinda natural and expected in a wizard family. His father, Ywron was an evoker, while his mother, Lillith was a skilled illusionist.
Ywron told Yscar this at least once a week:"We are not the common brutes you can see in the district(refering to other spellcasters whom utilize melee weapons). We are Eronyms, we use our minds as a weapon. If you ever think it is a good idea to swing with a weapon...think again!"
Yscar had to learn all the mottos of the noble families as a child. He didn't really like it, but he had no choice. Every day, his father named 3 families, and if Yscar was able to remember all of the correct answers, the father rewarded him with a story. While he hated the mottos, he loved these stories. They were about a spell by his choosing.
The family's motto is "Lucky as an Eronym". When you hear this motto, you don't think about actual luck. It's more about the "unlikely, random chain of events" resulting in a favorable way for the Eronym family. Basicly Eronyms were famous for getting what they want "by any means necesseary".
Ywron introduced Doxtrol to Yscar, when he turned 18. Doxtrol was an old and very experienced elven spellcaster. He became the teacher of Yscar, the one who showed him the way of the magic. They spent hours and hours each day in the elf's tower, the Black Prison. After some time they became true friends.
There was a tradition in this family. Every 25 years old family member needs to leave their house with only 100g and forbidden to contact his family for the next 5 years. In this time he needs to discover some kind of secret spell or rare artifact in order to raise the family's name.
Yscar considered this mission to a great honour. On the day of departing, the father gave him a silver dagger as a goodbye present. The family motto was carved into the dagger. The parents hugged and kissed their boy and said "See you soon, my love".
He thought, the best in order to fulfill his obligations is to go to a place he knows nothing about. He heard about a ship which sails to the north in 2 hours. However 2 hours for a gambler is waay too long. Before he got to the ship he lost nearly all of his money in less then 5 minutes of gambling. He got barely enough gold to pay to the ship's captain for his seat.
