I've been lurking around in different rulebooks other than dnd3.5 and i found some interesting stuff that might come in handy in our sessions.
Skill challenges: Almost like skill check but it generates more excitement. Basically you have to roll the check a few more times. Easy challenge: needs 3 succesfull check or 2 fail moderate: 5/3 hard: 7/4
Party Skill challenge: For collaborative challenges like climbing up hills together we can aid each others rolls to be able to reach higher DCs. For example: wizards and priests use diplomacy to convince an enemy leader to be neutral or friendly, and lets say a barbarian not trained in diplomacy can help out with intimidation. They all have to roll a base amount, roleplay it to gain more bonuses decided by dm and then add it together to match for the high DC challenge.
These challenges reward higher xp than a normal check would.
Also Journals should be One thread by character, Im guessing over time it will be flooded and its easier to keep track.

Interesting things you mention. I like the thought of skill challenges and party challenges. I will put it to vote and see what kind of results we get. If majority rules for it, we'll implement it.
As for character journals, I am in agreement with you. I will be making different threads for everyone as well. I had originally wanted them mixed because the journals are written when something happens along the story-line so the journals events should match up but it is getting a little cluttered.
